Memorial Day 2016
Article written on 2016-06-06 by: Michael
On May 30th, 2016, Evelyn, Antoinette and Michael traveled to Union Grove to enjoy the Memorial Day Ceremony presented yearly on the Sunday prior to Memorial Day.
It is held at the Veteran’s Cemetery at Union Grove.
They do a beautiful job and every marker has a flag which is over 15,000 this year. The grounds are impeccable.
Evelyn’s father, Philip J Eckert remains are interred on columbarium wall on the top row right behind the flags. It is a perfect position to take in the ceremony.
Roger Eckert, Evelyn’s uncle, was one of the first placed in the cemetery in 2008. He, and his wife Sheila, are located in the front center of the cemetery located by a ground marker at EA position 47.
We did not make it last year, but our intention is to make this a yearly event.
If you have not had a chance to make this ceremony, you should. It really brings home to true meaning of Memorial Day as we honor those who have given everything for the freedom we enjoy and perhaps take for granted.
